¥KC METAL FIBER(the metal staple of the thickness)

 

 

ƒAbout KC METAL FIBER„

 

KC METAL FIBER was developed in Manufacturing Engineering Research Center, University of Tokyo, it is the metal staple of the thickness like the hair and is made from the process named the chatter vibration cutting method. Size is 30-100ƒÊm in diameter, and 2 - 10mm in length. (For standard size, length is 3-6mm at the diameter of 60-90ƒÊm) It can manufacture with almost all metal. The materials currently produced as standard are an aluminum-aluminum alloy, and copper, brass, bronze, Phosphorus bronze, steel, stainless steel and titanium.

œDiameter distribution

A diameter distribution of KC METAL FIBER is a normal distribution mostly, as shown in Fig. 1. Average diameter is larger 6-9 micrometers than size currently called.

 

œLength distribution

A length distribution of KC METAL FIBER is the form distorted for a while as shown in Fig. 2. And there is a peak of a distribution in a place shorter 0.4mm than the size currently called.

ƒThe manufacture method and manufacturing process of

KC METAL FIBER„

 

KC METAL FIBER is manufactured by machining a metal block. It is not made by rolling or extending. This machining technology is the special processing method which is called "the chatter cutting process", and is the technique which gives chatter vibration to an edge by the elastic tool, and cut in direct short fibers shape. The metal fibers made from this technique are well stabilized in lengths and diameters. And these are good for embedding to resin and fire refractory, cause its shape is triangular prisms unlike the metal line made from extending or rolling.

ƒAs the example of use of KC METAL FIBER„

 

œFriction material (brake pad & clutch facing)

If you used KC METAL FIBER as friction material of a brake or a clutch, you can improve these performances very good. Corse metal has the heat resistance, the wear resistance, the high-fever conductivity, and outstanding intensity. Furthermore these are the staples of 3 square-pillar form, and are good for embedding to the main agents of friction material. Many brake makers use it as friction materials.

 

œAs filler material
@(aggregate of a fire refractory material and cement)

If you mixed KC METAL FIBER into an clayey fire refractory material, or brick and cement, you can prevent propagation of cracks. KC METAL FIBER which can maintain the fiber characteristic at high temperature attracts attention now, it became impossible for mineral system fibers, such as asbestos, to use on an environmental pollution problem. KC METAL FIBER which can be unity with refractory material in a severe situation is made hard to be divided a fire refractory material and brick, and can prevent a crack by using it as aggregate material. So it is introduced into many fire refractory material makers.

 

œAs an electromagnetic shielding material

KC METAL FIBER makes resin hard to divide and conductivity to be made to compound it uniformly. You can use this character to research and development a base material of casing of electromagnetic wave generating equipment and a electronic products as an electromagnetic wave cover material.

œChallenge to new product through which it passes

A lower photograph is C-FIBER developed newly. It is the metal staple of the infinite shape (the shape of a wavy line) which recycles and creates an electric wire (copper wire) unlike KC METAL FIBER which it is made by the chatter vibration cutting method. Its diameter is 120 ƒÊm, and length is in 3-10mm.
